AFT7 Performance - Slow Workspace Load or NinjaTrader 7 freezes, charts lock up

AFT7 Performance Guidance

  • NOTE:  select and use only 1 workspace to avoid loading issues and performance issues do not have workspaces running in the background!
  • Slow to load when opening workspaces - first load is slowest as bars are written cached to disk 2nd load is faster - 
    • Session Breakout Workspace needs 7 to 15 days of data.
    • Scalper Workspaces can be cut down to 3 days of data
  • Session Open Data Lag Lock Up a few seconds 2 to 5 secs or worse 10 to 15 or even more - in some cases minutes.
    • In most cases this is due the Market Analyzer clogging up  the PC, and this can be closed and then the workspace should be saves as a different name to prevent updates overwriting the changes.

    • Close it and save the workspace as a copy with a different name

Some routines to assist

1. Manually install AFT7 and make sure you got the latest.
2. Close down all other workspaces - only open 1 workspace
3. Close down the market analyzer - if not using it to see the difference
4. Only trade on a few charts - for example just 1 or 2 in trading mode etc
5. Save the workspace as your own copy
6. Reset the NT7 sim accounts if very large data and orders
7. Data make sure you are not saving data to disk From NT7

Workstation/Laptop
NinjaTrader 7 and AFT7 can be quite data/CPU hungry 

1. PC Spec:
You will need a modern Spec PC - 
Intel Core i7 or better, AMD Ryzen 7 or 9
16GB or better RAM
SSD Hard drive - Samsung NVME EVO recommended
Dual or triple Monitor Video Card
ASUS motherboard preferred

SSD Drive D for Data

Add a drive d NVME SSD and move my documents to that drive

e.g. D:\Users\Trader\Documents
then install NinjaTrader into the usual place
D:\Users\Trader\Documents\NinjaTrader 7

NT8 Versions

The NT8 version promises to be more performance oriented with orders internally but NT8 is very resource greedy and requires a very good pc or it will bog down and serve/ lagged old tick data in real-time.
